2006-2007 Jazz Band

They begin preparing at the beginning of each school year. Their goal is too salute, in the finest manner possible, what many consider America's one original musical art form: JAZZ!

The Viking Jazz Ensembles offer student musicians a unique opportunity to explore and learn jazz music. From Dixieland, to Traditional, to Contemporary, Viking Jazz musicians reach into the soul of rhythm and the heart of brass to create thrilling music for their audiences.

 Fort Walton High boasts two jazz bands. Jazz Ensemble II gives students the opportunity to learn the art form. Jazz Ensemble I adds to those lessons, and turns out performances which rival seasoned pros.

Both ensembles perform and compete in District and State Florida Band Masters Competitions and each have received the type of accolades expected from the Viking Marching, Concert and Symphonic Bands.
Students take Jazz as a separate class during the school day. That equates to a real challenge for these students, with two separate shows to learn and perform throughout concert season. But for those who are up to the task, they become a vital part of keeping American Jazz alive and well and in the public eye (and ear!)
